MDS directors Emily and Nicola make an appearance the Best of Times / Worst of Times podcast. Up for discussion included the history of the More Recruitment Group, the latest updates within the logistics industry and the best events they’ve ever been to!
Hosted by The Best of Times / Worst of Times podcast is hosted by business leaders David Poole and James Doyle and aims to explore the pivotal moments that make us the people we are today, especially those learned through business.
Directors Emily and Nicola take to the podcast to talk about MDS’ early beginnings as an upstart in the logistics recruitment sector, going into business just before the financial crisis in 2008. Thankfully they were able to weather the storm even as a fledgling enterprise, finding a strong network in the business community of Northampton and taking advantage of its position within the coveted logistics ‘golden triangle’.
Emily and Nicola are completely immersed within the logistics sector. Leading a successful recruitment company, they offer their expertise, commenting on cash flow, driver demographics and perceptions of logistics drivers whilst out on the road.
Their approach to recruitment also features; they make a point of meeting and vetting every driver in their extensive database. Plus they highlight the importance of issuing drivers with uniforms to ensure they look the part, which in turn builds valuable trust with their clients.
The podcast has a recurring segment called ’worst of times’ and the response differs for each director. Nicola recounts losing a considerable client while Emily was on holiday, having to handle the weight of the situation on her own. Emily brings up the pandemic, with detrimental metrics decreasing in the space of a night. While both of these situations offered their own obstacles, each provided learning valuable experiences and opportunities in the long term. Not only strengthening the duo’s partnership, but also the business as a whole.
